Case Study: Trabon Printing

Challenge: Trabon Printing is a commercial printer that is experiencing the challenges common to the industry. They are a leader in a niche serving a specific industry and have top quality people, processes and equipment. They have been able to successfully expand their business nationally, serving larger customers, but have lost some traditional customers. The cumulative impact is to preserve share. This company is astute in realizing that as digital communication becomes even more prevalent, the industry will suffer further erosion and so they want to be proactive in identifying their future and starting now to lay the groundwork to achieve it.

Results: The Trabon printing team came together to review industry trends, competitor advantages and their own unique strengths. In studying the market relative to their skills and resources they were able to identify growth opportunities including, expanding their target customer, broadening range of solutions offered (not products) specific to their expanded niche customers, and leveraging technology to their advantage. Along with that, they identified people with great potential and leaders emerged to champion various aspects of the implementation plan. Finally, they adopted the philosophy of continual learning and improvement, setting up learning and communication processes, to guide the many tactical decisions they will face as they implement their new vision.

“Margaret,

Speaking of our work, I have to say that your leading us through the exercise of defining our strategy has created a sense of energy that is palpable.

You were able to draw talent from a number of individuals who heretofore had kept it cloaked. The environment you created encouraged, and in a way insisted, that each person participate.

We are a different organization today because of your involvement with us.

Thank you. I look forward to our continued association.

Tim”
